Yes, I did go. Not only did I survive but I also left with insights about not only Lebanon but the United States. What I learned in Lebanon is what has been lost here in the US and must be restored, if we are to return to the country we once were.

Unlike Kurdistan, the territory—or nation, depending on whom you ask—in northern Iraq that I visited one week earlier, Lebanon still maintains a strong Christian minority. That minority used to be a majority, until the Muslims arrived in large numbers a few decades ago. As with most nations that have allowed Muslims to immigrate en bloc, that shift has not served Lebanon well.
